Alaska: Hubbard Glacier
Tuesday, July 4, 2023, Hubbard Glacier, Alaska
We had a 4th of July celebration on the pool deck for those of us from the United States on Insignia (and anyone else who wanted to join in).

As we neared the Hubbard Glacier, there were several other cruise ships in the area. Visibility was poor due to fog. Our captain decided it wasn’t worth it to get closer. The glacier was not really visible and small ice bergs floating everywhere would be hard to avoid. However, other ships did venture closer and that provided more obstacles.

Although we didn’t get close, what we saw looked like the glacier has shrunken significantly since we were there 10 or so years ago, when we were the only ship and able to get close enough to see calving of large slabs of ice off the glacier.
